Our team completed the EIH Program in June of 2018 and received the CoMotion Innovation Gap Fund grant in January of 2019 to conduct a clinical evaluation at the University of Washington Medical Center. Our research engineer, Sai Krishna Madhavaram, incorporated innovative design features and materials into a novel bite block design (a single-use medical device that keeps the patient’s mouth open and protects the imaging probe from being damaged during invasive imaging procedures). After obtaining Institutional Review Board approval, our team began evaluating the use of novel bite block design in transesophageal echocardiography exams. The team hopes to complete the clinical evaluation by early 2020 which will also include flexible bronchoscopy and gastroenterology endoscopy procedures. We plan to raise additional funds to continue to commercialize our bite block design.
